3) DRY ICE

There are two ways of ordering dry ice:
- via the UKD’s SAP 
- via trouble ticket system (see point 2) 

4) MEDIA KITCHEN 

The media kitchen at the CRTD is not finished yet. Until it’s finishing the   the BIOTEC kitchen. 
The following procedure is intended:
 
Glass and bottle cleaning
Blue tubs: for general and non-sterile lab glass and bottles with blue caps that need cleaning.  
Green tubs: for all glasses and bottles from the cell culture that need cleaning. 

Please put the labeled blue tubs beside the lab entrance doors and the green tubs in front of the cell culture labs. 

Filled tubs will be picked up on a regular basis, additional cleaning issues you can address via e-mail to the media kitchen

Media provision 
Each group has a cabinet for media/solutions. It must always be clearly labeled (general lab – blue, cell culture – green plus group name). 
If media is needed, please send an e-mail with the necessary details (what, how much, when) to the media kitchen

Ordering of standard solutions: at least 1 day in advance  
Ordering of special solutions: at least 2 days in advance  

Please try to order centralized for your group.  

Provision of glassware
All groups are provided with shared cabinets for clean lab and cell culture glass for each homebase. 
If sterile or non-sterile glassware is needed, please send an e-mail with the necessary details (size, quantity, volume of the beakers, bottles, etc.) to the media kitchen. The billing is done in accordance with the amount of dirty glassware of each group. 

Autoclave
Please take the media and glasses that need autoclave to the media kitchen at the BIOTEC, make sure everything is labeled with autoclave tags. The items will be autoclaved for you. There is a collecting and pick-up place.

5) CLEANING OF LABS/OFFICES

Cleaning is done by the cleaning company GEGENBAUER

In the labs, only empty surfaces up to 1,80 m in height are cleaned. If lab benches are to be cleaned, they must be cleared. 

6) POSTAL SYSTEM

Letters and small parcels via central university unit
Letters and small parcels will be handled via the central university units. Please leave letters and small parcels at your secretary’s office – she will take care of the shipping. Make sure that the items are labeled with the correct addresses. Please bring the outgoing mails to the reception desk until 11 am every day at the latest. Please pick up the incoming mail at the reception board around 12 am every day.

Parcels via UPS, TNT, and other shipping enterprises
Pick up incoming parcels at the reception board until 5.30 pm every day at the latest. The reception board will inform the recipient immediately. Keep in mind that there is only a small freezer for +4° parcels. The reception will not give any guarantee for frozen equipment.
Leave outgoing and stamped parcels at the reception board for supplier pick up until 5.30 pm at the latest.

Large deliveries
Inform the reception board of large deliveries in advance. The delivery should be via the delivery entrance in the north wing basement. Please wait for the phone call from the reception board.
 

7) CLEANING OF LABORATORY COATS

-Currently only via reception board-

Place of pickup and delivery for the common laboratory coats: 
At the basement central corridor are two lockers for dirty coats and two lockers for cleaned coats. 

 

Place of pickup and delivery for the special GMP coats: 
Separate lockers 3rd floor, south

Pickup and delivery schedule: fortnightly by the company MTR
Day of the week: fortnightly every Wednesday 

Allocation of coats: 
Groups of the Medical Faculty: from the UKD, 
Groups of the TUD: must pay for the coats from their own group budget

8) COPY/PRINTER MACHINES

Allocation: 
North wing (copy and printing room on every homebase nearby the north-west staircase)

9) Sealed container for disposal of sensitive documents

Containers are allocated in the south wing at the ground floor, first floor and second floor, each in front of the offices.

11) HOW TO HANDLE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR SUNBLINDS

Auto-regulation
Sunblind will be closed automatically as soon as the sun reaches a sensor at the facade for a few minutes, but will still let some light in.
From a wind force 6 on the sun blinds will be opening again to prevent damages - even in modus "0".

Interior sunblinds are not suitable to prevent from warming-up.

Close windows before using the interior sunblinds.

11) SUPPORT OF THE TECHNICAL FACILITIES

The technical facilities in the CRTD are supported by the Universitätsklinik (UKD). The on-site contact person is Mr. Jens Erber (see phone number below). 

Business hours of the UKD: Monday – Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

 Disasters and device failure outside of the UKD’s business hours are to be reported to the control room.

1) LAB WASTE SYSTEM

S1 waste

YELLOW waste bins with cover plates 80 L and 120 L

 

Equip the round waste bins with autoclave bags.
Store filled and closed bags in the rolling waste bins. 
Rolling waste bins will be transported to the central autoclave room by our supplier VEOLIA daily, if necessary, to care for autoclaving there.

S2 waste
RED waste bins with cover plate, sizes 80l and 120l

 

Equip the round waste bins with autoclave bags.
Store filled and closed bags in the rolling waste bins.
Rolling waste bins will be collected and transported to central autoclave room by our supplier VEOLIA daily, if necessary.

Regular waste (not contaminated!)
Collect the regular waste in the labs in the round white trash bins with black cover plates. 
Collect regular waste outside the labs in the triple-colored trash bins available in the social room and on the corridors. For paper waste in offices please use the individual trash bins.

  

These trash bins will be emptied by our regular cleaning supplier GEGENBAUER every other day, if necessary.

Chemical waste
Chemical waste should be collected in the special safety cabinets within the labs. The supplier VEOLIA offers 5-20 L canisters for usual acids and bases as well as for solvents.

 

Please leave a clear sign on the canister to indicate what is inside. Please keep reactive or special solutions separately. Please be aware that VEOLIA collects and replaces filled canisters and single waste bottles from the lab regularly.

Ethidiumbromide
Collect EtBr-contaminated solids or liquids separately in the designated rooms only. Our supplier VEOLIA offers 5-20 L canisters for liquids and 30-60 L barrels for solids. 

Glass
Collect broken glass separately. 
Our supplier VEOLIA offers 30-60 L barrels for this kind of waste.
